Catarratto has always been cultivated on Pantelleria, but its production has remained limited to personal consumption. Francesco and Nicoletta produce only 400 bottles a year, which take their name from the Kaffefi district where they have the winery, which means "pumice-rich soil" in Arabic. It is this soil that gives the wine its flavour. The vines are 40–80 years old.
