Max sein Wein

Max Baumann worked and learned at Judith Beck and Gut Oggau in Austria before he came back to his family winery in Dertingen (Baden) to start making his own wines the way he imagines them. While still working at Gut Oggau, with the help of his family he made his first own vintage in 2016.

Max gives his wines plenty of time in the cellar and matures them around 9–10 months in wood and around 6 months in the bottle. He likes to play with different techniques, his Blanc is partly carbonic maceration, partly skin macerated and partly direct pressed.

But in general his philosophy in the cellar is: „as little as possible, as much as necessary“.

For us, Max is a master of cuvées: Blanc is a mix of Müller-Thurgau and Silvaner. An aromatic, fruity, fresh, exciting wine. Trio Sauvage is Silvaner, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay melting together to one beautiful, pink-orange flower.

Silvaner is his favourite grape and Les Autochtones comes from his oldest parcels and is his most elegant wine.

Max wines are for natural wine newbies and die-hards alike.
