Max Baumann makes wine near the river Main, the longest tributary of the Rhine. After gaining invaluable experience with a number of prolific wineries, Judith Beck and Gut Oggau included, Max returned here, to Dertingen with a new outlook on farming and winemaking. His philosophy in the cellar is: ‘as little as possible, as much as necessary’ and it was on this basis he created that label ‘Max sein Wein’, releasing his first vintage in 2016.
Max gives his wines plenty of time in the cellar and matures them around 9–10 months in wood followed by approximately 6 months in the bottle. He likes to play with different techniques and is a master of cuvées.
These are approachable but fascinating wines, for natural wine newbies and die-hards alike.
